The various pieces of godly armor and weapons, and their use on offense and defense, are then described at length, item by item and verse by verse. This edition includes an introduction and biography of Gurnall by J. Despite his Puritan leanings, Gurnall signed the Act of Uniformity and agreed to the dictates of the Church of England. Though not ejected from his pulpit as were other non-conformists, his position was not respected on either side of the conflict. Little is known about Gurnall, who was rector of Lavenham in Suffolk from until his death in , and his reputation rests almost entirely on the Complete Armour. The work itself originally appeared in three quarto volumes, published in , and respectively, and consists of a long consecutive series of sermons preached at Lavenham on Ephesians

The whole book has been preached over scores of times, and is, in our judgment, the best thought-breeder in all our library. It is this unabridged edition which is now reprinted. John Newton said that if he might read only one book beside the Bible, he would choose The Christian in Complete Armour, and Richard Cecil was of much the same opinion.
It took me so long to read it the first time as I would re-read a chapter times before moving on. A wealth of Biblical insight. I highly recommend this book Rated 5 out of 5 Rev. I strongly recommend this book, the three volume abridged version is quite understandable. Rated 5 out of 5 Charles C. It was exqisite in form as much as content. This book unabridged version is published by the Banner of Truth.
This unabridged version consists of two volumes that total well over 1, pages. Have you recently read any books over 1, pages that were based upon 11 verses of Scripture?
The content of this book is simply amazing! Gurnall encourages, warns, teaches, admonishes, helps, and instructs the believer in how to mortify kill sin and how to flee from the enemy and his attacks.
Volume one consists of a biographical sketch of Gurnall, written by J. Ryle prior to getting into the exposition of Ephesians 6. Gurnall is absolutely masterful in his exegesis and application of Ephesians 6 to the Christian life. Ryle adds a very nice touch. I think a single column would have provided a nicer reading experience.
I highly recommend this book to every Christian! Disclaimer: My thanks to The Banner of Truth Trust for providing me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
