BLINDSIGHT ROBIN COOK PDF

So, I finally decided to try and get some of the older books off the bookshelf, and started with this one. This book was fantastic! It combined a pathologist, opthamologist, police detective, and some organized crime thugs into a very interesting and page turning story. I entered the military only a I bought this book new when it was on clearance and it has been sitting on my bookshelf for 18 years or so.

I entered the military only a few years after this book was published and I can remember countless hours in classes on sexual harassment and discrimination. This book shed a little light onto why it was such a hot topic at the time. The main character, Laurie Montgomery, was an attractive young woman and would often get chastised or harassed for being a forensic pathologist for the office of the Medical Examiner.

Men would treat her more like a model, than give her credit for being a medical doctor. I just found it interesting to get an idea of how things were just before I entered into the professional world.

One of the most frustrating things about this book for me was that it was recommended to me by a librarian. I visited the public library in my new home town for the first time and decided to ask for a recommendation. I was a little skeptical when I picked up the book, but I thought that I should be open minded. Turns out that it is possible to be so open minded that your I read this book to fulfill the medical condition category of a reading challenge and wish that I had not wasted my time.

Turns out that it is possible to be so open minded that your brains fall out. The review that I posted above sums up some of the issues that I had with the book. The characters were weak! Also, I found the book filled with some racist undertones. As I was reading the book, I started making a list of each racist or stereotypical comment I encountered. Since so much time has passed and I misplaced the paper, I am going to go from memory.

I found that annoying not only because the description usually also contained something negative, but I found myself wondering about the ethnic background of all the other characters. Are we to assume that if the author does not describe the characters that they are white? One of the main characters of the novel is Dr. Laurie Montgomery. I did appreciate the attempt at having a strong, female lead.

However, I got annoyed with all the descriptions of her beauty and her strange dating antics. I just felt like it did not move the plot forward. Instead, I found her dialogue whiny and her approach to matters of the heart trite.

Finally, the worst part about this book is that I figured out the mystery with at least a third of the book remaining. The ending tied together a little bit too neatly. I did not care much about any of the characters and I felt angry with the lack of character development. I would not recommend this book to a friend.

Blindsight

She uncovers a series of drug overdoses and gangland-style murders with a grisly twist. Plot[ edit ] An abnormal increase in the number of drug overdose cases makes Laurie seriously suspicious, and she starts investigating these cases. The going is, however, not as smooth for Laurie as the Chief Medical Examiner Harold Bingham is adamant that no further investigation needs to be done on these cases because of heavy political pressure related to the death of a young banker who is also the son of a Senatorial candidate. Laurie is asked to write off his death as a normal one even though his is a clear case of drug overdose. Though, Laurie reluctantly agrees to this, she cannot stop herself from researching all these drug overdose cases and finding some common features.
